Smart reframing
Adapt the same story to multiple ratios without losing the subject.
Before you begin
- Choose destinations and ratios for every deliverable.
- Identify multi-person shots, wide gestures and text already embedded in the image.
Step by step
- 01
Define the main subject
For each shot, decide what must remain visible: a face, hand, product or screen. The geometric centre is not always the story’s centre.
- 02
Check movement
Review entrances, exits and speaker changes. Automatic tracking should remain stable enough not to draw attention to the framing.
- 03
Reposition elements
Recheck logos, titles and subtitles after changing ratio. If information no longer fits, change the composition rather than shrinking every text element.
Practical example
Horizontal interview → vertical clip: approve the speaker framing first, then subtitles, then the areas occupied by publishing controls.
Review checklist
- Faces and meaningful gestures remain visible.
- Framing stays stable during movement.
- Each variant has its own approval.
Troubleshooting
Two people do not fit
Prioritise the speaker, alternate framing or choose a composition that retains both people. Avoid consistently cropping faces.
Tracking feels jittery
Identify subject switches or distracting movement; prefer a steadier frame for the affected sequence.
