Before you begin

  • List destinations: website, presentation, social feed or vertical video.
  • Check destination requirements when publishing; they can change.

Step by step

  1. 01

    Choose the frame

16:9 suits horizontal composition, 9:16 vertical composition, 1:1 square and 4:5 a less narrow portrait. These are ratios, not guarantees of acceptance by a platform.

  2. 02

    Adapt the content

Recompose shots, text and signatures for each version. A horizontal video simply shrunk into a vertical frame can become hard to read.

  3. 03

    Name deliverables

Include campaign, language, ratio and version in filenames. Maintain a clear list of approved variants and their destinations.

Practical example

Practical example

workshop-launch-en-9x16-v03.mp4 and workshop-launch-en-16x9-v03.mp4: two distinct deliverables, each reviewed in its own frame.

Review checklist

  • The ratio matches the intended use.
  • Player controls do not obscure the message.
  • The filename identifies the variant unambiguously.

Troubleshooting

Bars appear around the image

Check whether they come from the source, edit or player. Make a deliberate choice between cropping and preserving the entire image.

A platform rejects the video

Compare duration, size, codec and resolution against its current requirements. Do not assume the correct ratio is sufficient.
